Summary

The Pipelayer is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance and repair of underground systems.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair of underground work.
  • Possess a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution.
  • Capable of operating and maintaining company equipment, i.e. Backhoe.
  • Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up.
  • Understands underground services, infrastructure and duct banks.
  • Maintain a safety-first mentality and wear personal protective equipment whenever required.
  • Support the install, service and maintain overhead and underground distribution systems.
  • Support the install, service and maintain electrical substations
  • Support the install, service and maintain streetlights and yard lighting
  • Maintain appropriate hour and production records as instructed by the Lead.
  • Clean the shop and yard areas as needed, maintaining the workplace in an organized and orderly manner.
  • Clean trucks and equipment/tools.
  • Pick up supplies from vendors as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Company.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Able to perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Possess Driver License for at least 5 years in Texas. CDL preferred, not required.
  • Demonstrates safe driving techniques.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outside, frequently in inclement weather.
  • Willing to work over-time when requested.
  • Able to use hand tools on a continuous basis.
  • Capable of being exposed to dirt and power daily.
  • Knowledge in identifying underground utility locates a plus.
  • Able to identify unforeseen obstacles that would hinder safety or production.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations, when required.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hand to fingers, handle and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
